Try This First
Most reports come down to one of these, and checking takes a minute:
- I can't hear anything. Check the speaker key in the header, which sets the volume and mutes everything at once, and Volume in Settings › Sound. With a synth chosen, Keys play there should be APP or BOTH to hear the built-in engine.
- My MIDI keyboard doesn't play. Every input plays by default. Pair a Bluetooth keyboard in your device's settings first, then check Settings › MIDI control: the Keyboard picker, and a Listen channel of ALL.
- The app can't find the volca FM2 or synth. Confirm it is powered on and connected with a data USB cable rather than a charge-only one. In Settings › Hardware, choose the synth, pick the output port, and press CONNECT, or LOOK AGAIN if it isn't listed. Some USB hubs are unreliable; try a direct port.
- There are no Patterns or Snapshots tabs. They appear once you choose Volca FM2 in Settings › Hardware. A DX7-family synth takes patches one way only.
- Patches didn't import. Make sure the files really are DX7-format SysEx (
.syx) or a.zipof them, and that you picked the right files when asked. Files that aren't valid DX7 data are skipped. - A restore warned me before running. That is deliberate — restoring overwrites all of the instrument's programs and sequences. Capture a fresh snapshot first if you want a way back.
What to Include
If it is still broken, these things turn a slow back-and-forth into one reply:
- Your device and OS version — for example “iPad Air, iPadOS 18” or “MacBook Pro, macOS 15”.
- The Rithmatic version, shown at the top of Settings.
- Whether it happens in the app or in the plugin, and in which host.
- If a synth or MIDI keyboard is involved: its model, its firmware version, and the MIDI interface or cable you use.
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- A screenshot or short screen recording, if the problem is visual. For an import problem, the patch file itself helps — if you have the right to share it.
Your Privacy When You Write
We only ever see what you choose to put in the message. The app has no analytics, no logs, no crash reports, and no usage data, ever; it works offline apart from the optional tip jar and the links you choose to open. We keep your email for as long as it takes to answer it. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture, and the Terms of Use for what the app does and does not promise.
