Every voice comes with the app: no download, no account. Browse by family, or by character: percussive, plucked, metallic, bright, sustained, swell, evolving, mellow. Or search by name. Each voice is credited to the archive it came from, and to its designer where a bank names one.
The DX7 sounds you know from records, each with why it is famous and the songs to hear it on. Patch of the day puts one classic voice in front of you each day, in the app and in a widget for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Rithmatic is also an AUv3 instrument, for GarageBand on iPad and Audio Unit hosts on the Mac. Its window is the app's own Patches screen and Patch Builder, your bank shows up as its presets, and Brightness, Attack, Decay, Release and Feedback can be automated. The patch is saved with your project.
The Patch Builder puts all six operators on a graph, each cable carrying its wave, so you see a modulator reshape the carrier it feeds and hear it as you drag. Draw a cable and it snaps to the nearest of the 32 algorithms. Edit envelopes, tuning, the LFO and pitch envelope, or use Feel: thickness, touch and brightness in plain words. Every edit can be undone.
Pick two patches and Rithmatic blends them into eight new ones. Play each, and keep the ones you like.
From the on-screen keys, a computer keyboard, or any MIDI keyboard: pitch bend, mod wheel, breath, sustain, and aftertouch as vibrato, tremolo or swell. Velocity on, or one strength for every note. Mono, glide, and an arpeggiator with a latch. Five tunings: equal temperament, just intonation, and Wendy Carlos's Alpha, Beta and Gamma scales. The waveform follows what you play.
Record what you play and share it as a WAV. Share a sound as a short clip of it playing, with a card, a QR code and a patch code that brings it into anyone's Rithmatic.
Gather patches from anywhere into your bank, as many as you like, and drag pads to reorder them. Export it as standard DX7 .syx under the names you gave your patches. Open .syx banks, or a .zip of them, from Files, Mail, AirDrop or the Finder.
Light or dark, following your device or your choice in Settings. On the Mac, a full menu bar and a Help menu with keys and shortcuts and a guide to the synth terms.

Rithmatic también es un instrumento AUv3, para GarageBand en el iPad y hosts Audio Unit en el Mac. Su ventana es la propia pantalla Patches y el Patch Builder de la app, tu banco aparece como sus presets, y Brightness, Attack, Decay, Release y Feedback se pueden automatizar. El patch se guarda con tu proyecto.
El Patch Builder pone los seis operadores en un gráfico, cada cable con su onda, así ves cómo un modulador transforma la portadora a la que alimenta y lo oyes mientras arrastras. Dibuja un cable y se ajusta al más cercano de los 32 algoritmos. Edita envolventes, afinación, el LFO y la envolvente de tono, o usa Feel: cuerpo, ataque y brillo con palabras claras. Cada edición se puede deshacer.
Elige dos patches y Rithmatic los mezcla en ocho nuevos. Escucha cada uno y quédate con los que te gusten.

Graba lo que tocas y compártelo como WAV. Comparte un sonido como un clip corto de él sonando, con una tarjeta, un código QR y un código de patch que lo lleva al Rithmatic de cualquiera.
Reúne patches de cualquier parte en tu banco, tantos como quieras, y arrastra los pads para reordenarlos. Expórtalo como .syx estándar de DX7 con los nombres que diste a tus patches. Abre bancos .syx, o un .zip con ellos, desde Archivos, Mail, AirDrop o el Finder.

Rithmatic is a synth on its own, and everything above works with nothing plugged in. If you own a hardware FM synth, choose it in Settings and Rithmatic sends it patches over USB or Bluetooth MIDI, in Yamaha's DX7 voice format or the volca FM2's own.

Firmware 1.10 or later. Read its current patch, write to any of its 64 memory slots, back up and restore all 16 sequencer patterns on the Patterns tab, and capture the whole instrument to a snapshot you can put back later.
Send patches and 32-voice banks to a DX7 (mkI or mkII), TX7, TX802 or the original volca FM over standard Yamaha voice dumps. These go one way, so Patterns and Snapshots are for the volca FM2 only.

Every feature is free. Pay what you like, at the top of Settings, is optional and unlocks nothing. There are no ads, no subscriptions and no account.

Rithmatic works fully offline and keeps your patches and files on your device. It has no analytics and no tracking. The only network use is an optional tip, which goes through the App Store or Google Play, and the links you choose to open: the support email, our website, store pages, the archives the voices came from, and the songs in Essentials.
Rithmatic funciona completamente sin conexión y guarda tus patches y archivos en tu dispositivo. No tiene analíticas ni seguimiento. Rithmatic funktioniert komplett offline und behält deine Patches und Dateien auf deinem Gerät. Es gibt keine Analytics und kein Tracking. Das Netz nutzt die App nur für ein optionales Trinkgeld, das über den App Store oder Google Play läuft, und für die Links, die du selbst öffnest: die Support-E-Mail, unsere Website, Store-Seiten, die Archive, aus denen die Sounds stammen, und die Songs in Essentials.
